About this Course

Did you know poetry can be a way of being in the world, deep noticing of our physical and emotional sensations? Together it might even be a matrix for us to look at how seemingly opposite things or ideas might occupy the same space. So why not add your story to the mix! Join the NVRC Artist Resident, Allison Chow, at the Shipyards, in the communal poetry machine she’s made piecing together sounds, conversations, histories and the colours of the vibrant Lower Lonsdale area. The themes of her work include finding belonging, trusting the wisdom of our senses and getting curious about the different ways we might move to see and be seen as the beautifully complex beings we are. In this experience we will hear about her process gathering the textures of this community and we will work together to create a safe space to slow down, draw our feelings and practice deep, conscious noticing. Everyone is welcome. Allison will be giving a short demo so you can follow along if you’re not sure. There will be time to reflect and try out different parts of the interactive installation with tools like drawing, building and writing. There will be a sharing circle in the end where we can share our artifacts and what we noticed with each other or support others with active listening. The experience will also feature a custom mix of beats and audio interpretations from the Quay featuring local soundscape artist rec12 to help participants experience the Shipyards in a new and provocative way.
